Abydos was the cult centre of Osiris and one of the oldest continuously sacred places in Egypt. The Temple of Seti I is the reason to make the trip: the relief carving here is the finest of its period anywhere, cut shallow and precise, and much of it still holds colour.
In a side corridor is the Abydos King List, a wall recording the names of Seti's predecessors in order. It is one of the most important documents in Egyptology, and it is simply there on the wall as you pass.
