Hurghada is the largest resort town on the Egyptian Red Sea and the one with the most of everything: flights, hotels, dive centres, boats. If you want choice and convenience rather than quiet, this is the base.
The Giftun Islands sit offshore and are the standard boat day, with sheltered snorkelling stops and long sandbars. Inland, the Eastern Desert starts almost immediately, which is why quad and jeep safaris leave from here so easily.
