About Hurghada

Hurghada is the largest resort town on the Egyptian Red Sea and the one with the most of everything: flights, hotels, dive centres, boats. If you want choice and convenience rather than quiet, this is the base.

The Giftun Islands sit offshore and are the standard boat day, with sheltered snorkelling stops and long sandbars. Inland, the Eastern Desert starts almost immediately, which is why quad and jeep safaris leave from here so easily.

When to go

Year-round. Summer is hot and busy; winter is mild and the sea is cooler but perfectly divable in a wetsuit.

Getting there

Hurghada International (HRG) has the widest choice of flights on this coast, and transfers into town are short.

Good to know

Giftun is a protected area and carries a park fee, usually collected separately from the trip price.
The town is long and strung out along the coast; check where a hotel actually sits before assuming it is central.
